7 Best Website Change Detection Tools in 2026

The seven best website change detection tools compared across 20 criteria — price, check interval, detection modes, alert channels and history. Free and paid options.

The shortlist by use case

Fast checks on a budget: Sken.io — 1-minute intervals from €3/mo. Best all-rounder with a free tier: Visualping. Pages behind a login: Distill.io. Competitive and price intelligence: Hexowatch. Many simple pages, low budget: Wachete. Compliance teams: ChangeTower. Site-wide archiving: Fluxguard (formerly Versionista).

What actually differentiates these tools

Feature lists in this category look nearly identical. Every vendor claims visual monitoring, content monitoring, element selection and instant alerts. Five things genuinely vary, and they are what the table below measures.

1. Check interval, and what it costs to get it

The headline number is not the fastest interval a vendor advertises — it is the fastest interval on the plan you would actually buy. Visualping advertises 2-minute checks, but that is the $70/mo Personal 10K plan; its $14/mo tier checks every 15 minutes. Distill.io reaches 2 minutes on Flexi from $80/mo, and its free tier sits at 6 hours. ChangeTower’s $12/mo Lite plan checks once a day. Sken.io unlocks 1-minute intervals on its €3/mo plan, which is the one claim on this page where it is unambiguously ahead.

2. What is metered

Vendors meter differently and it changes the maths considerably. Visualping caps both checks and pages, so 10 pages on the $14/mo plan is a hard ceiling even with checks to spare. Wachete meters pages, and meters JavaScript-rendered pages far more tightly than static ones. Distill.io meters monitors and cloud checks separately from local ones. Sken.io meters only checks, spread across as many tasks as you want.

3. Which alert channels are free and which are gated

Nearly everyone supports email and webhooks. The differences are at the edges: Visualping gates Slack and Microsoft Teams to Business plans from $140/mo. Discord and Google Chat are rare across the category — Sken.io includes both on every paid plan. SMS is available on Visualping and Distill.io mid-tiers and absent from Sken.io entirely.

4. Whether it can reach the page at all

A page behind a login, or one that needs three clicks before the content appears, defeats most cloud crawlers. Distill.io’s local monitoring solves this by running in your own browser with your own session, and its macros replay interactions before each check. Fluxguard handles authenticated crawling at the enterprise end. If this is your situation, it outranks every other criterion.

5. How much history is retained

For alerting, history barely matters. For compliance, it is the whole product. Sken.io keeps 12 snapshots per monitoring task. ChangeTower retains 30 days on lower plans and 6 months on Business. Visualping Business retains a year. Fluxguard is built around durable, long-term archives of entire sites.

The seven tools in detail

Ordered with our own product first, which is a disclosure rather than a ranking. Each card lists the limitations alongside the strengths.

1. Sken.ioOur product

Minute-level visual and content change detection at the lowest entry price in the category.

Entry paid price
€3/mo
Free plan
None
Interval on cheapest paid plan
Every 1 minute
Fastest interval
Every 1 minute (all paid plans)

Best for: Solo operators and small teams who need fast checks on a small number of high-value pages without paying enterprise rates.

Strengths

  • Every paid plan — including the €3/mo Basic plan — unlocks 1-minute checks. Most competitors reserve sub-5-minute intervals for their $70+/mo tiers.
  • Eight alert channels (email, Slack, Discord, Google Chat, webhook, Zapier, Android app, Chrome extension) with no channel locked behind a business tier.
  • Three ways to select what to watch: crop a visual region, pick a DOM element, or let AI-assisted selection pick the region for you.
  • One-time check bundles (300 / 500 / 2,000 / 80,000 checks) for people who do not want a subscription at all.
  • Bulk CSV import for setting up many monitors at once, plus proxy support for geo-specific and rate-limited targets.

Limitations

  • No free-forever plan — a 14-day trial with 140 checks, then a paid plan is required.
  • No SMS alerts. Visualping and Distill both offer SMS on mid-tier plans.
  • Snapshot history is capped at 12 snapshots per monitoring task, so it is not a long-term compliance archive.
  • Single-user accounts — no multi-seat team workspaces or role-based access control.

2. Visualping

The category’s best-known tool, with AI change summaries and a generous free tier.

Entry paid price
$14/mo (Personal 1K)
Free plan
150 checks/mo across 5 pages, checked hourly
Interval on cheapest paid plan
Every 15 minutes
Fastest interval
Every 2 minutes (Personal 10K, $70/mo)

Best for: Teams that want AI-written change summaries and are comfortable paying business-tier prices for Slack and Teams delivery.

Strengths

  • Free plan includes visual, text and element detection plus AI summaries, a REST API and an MCP server.
  • AI change summaries and “important change” flagging reduce alert noise on busy pages.
  • Mature integration surface: webhooks, Telegram and n8n on free; Slack, Microsoft Teams and Google Sheets on Business plans.
  • Business tiers include multiple user seats, bulk management, labels and one-year data retention.

Limitations

  • Fast checks are expensive: 2-minute intervals require the $70/mo Personal 10K plan.
  • Slack and Microsoft Teams delivery is gated to Business plans, which start at $140/mo.
  • Page counts are capped per plan (10 pages on the $14/mo tier), independent of your check budget.
  • API calls draw down the same check quota as scheduled monitoring rather than having a separate allowance.

3. Distill.io

Power-user monitoring with local, in-browser checks and recorded macros.

Entry paid price
$15/mo (Starter)
Free plan
25 monitors (5 in the cloud), 1,000 cloud checks/mo at a 6-hour minimum interval
Interval on cheapest paid plan
Every 10 minutes
Fastest interval
Every 2 minutes (Flexi, from $80/mo)

Best for: Technical users monitoring pages behind a login, where checks must run locally in a real browser session.

Strengths

  • Local monitoring runs inside your own browser, so it can watch pages behind authentication that cloud crawlers cannot reach.
  • Recorded macros replay clicks and form fills before a check, handling multi-step and interactive pages.
  • Browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox and Edge plus Android and iOS apps.
  • Very high check ceilings — 100,000 cloud checks/mo on the $35 Professional plan.

Limitations

  • The free plan’s 6-hour minimum cloud interval makes it unsuitable for time-sensitive monitoring.
  • Email alerts on the free plan are capped at 30 per month.
  • Local monitoring only runs while the device and browser are actually on.
  • Reaching 2-minute cloud checks means the usage-based Flexi plan, from $80/mo.

4. Hexowatch

The widest set of monitor types — visual, content, HTML, keyword, tech stack, price, availability and WHOIS.

Entry paid price
From $14.99/mo (Standard)
Free plan
75 checks/mo
Interval on cheapest paid plan
Not publicly available
Fastest interval
Not publicly available

Best for: Competitive-intelligence work where you need to watch pricing, tech stack and WHOIS changes alongside visual diffs.

Strengths

  • A dozen-plus distinct monitor types in one product, including price, technology-stack, availability and WHOIS monitoring.
  • Positioned around competitive intelligence rather than single-page change alerts.
  • Archived snapshot history with change reports you can export.
  • Enterprise tier adds managed campaign setup and a dedicated strategy consultant.

Limitations

  • Plan tiers render client-side, so pricing is hard to verify programmatically; figures here come from third-party review sites.
  • Check intervals are not published per plan, which makes it difficult to compare speed directly.
  • Enterprise pricing starts at $999/mo, a steep jump from the self-serve tiers.
  • The breadth of monitor types adds setup complexity if all you need is “tell me when this page changes”.

5. Wachete

High page counts at low prices, with dynamic (JavaScript) pages metered separately.

Entry paid price
$5.40/mo (Starter)
Free plan
5 static pages checked every 24 hours (no dynamic pages)
Interval on cheapest paid plan
Every 60 minutes
Fastest interval
Every 5 minutes (Premium, $54.90/mo)

Best for: Watching a large number of simple, static pages on a tight budget.

Strengths

  • Very high page allowances for the money — 100 pages for $10.90/mo on the Standard plan.
  • A genuinely free forever tier for low-urgency static pages.
  • Mobile apps and a straightforward folder-based organisation model.
  • Annual billing includes one month free, and paid plans come with a 7-day trial.

Limitations

  • JavaScript-rendered pages are metered as a separate, much scarcer “dynamic page” quota — 1 on Starter, 2 on Standard.
  • The free plan cannot monitor dynamic pages at all.
  • The fastest interval is 5 minutes, and it needs the $54.90/mo Premium plan.
  • The interface is dated relative to newer entrants.

6. ChangeTower

Compliance-leaning monitoring with AI change summaries available on the free plan.

Entry paid price
$12/mo (Lite)
Free plan
3 monitored pages checked daily, with 30-day history and AI monitoring
Interval on cheapest paid plan
Daily
Fastest interval
Every 20 minutes (Business, $78/mo)

Best for: Compliance and legal teams tracking terms-of-service, policy and regulatory page changes.

Strengths

  • AI-powered change monitoring is included on the free plan, which is unusual at that price point.
  • Team seats on every tier, with role-based access control and a workspace model.
  • Six-month history retention on Business, plus full-page archiving on Enterprise.
  • Essential and above can target specific page sections, ignore chosen elements and handle lazy-loaded content.

Limitations

  • The Lite plan at $12/mo still only checks once per day.
  • The fastest self-serve interval is 20 minutes on the $78/mo Business plan.
  • Enterprise pricing starts around $299/mo billed annually.
  • Not designed for minute-level monitoring of fast-moving pages.

7. Fluxguard (formerly Versionista)

Site-wide crawling and long-term archival for legal, regulatory and QA use cases.

Entry paid price
From $99/mo
Free plan
Legacy Versionista free tier: 5 URLs and 465 crawls/mo
Interval on cheapest paid plan
Not publicly available
Fastest interval
Not publicly available

Best for: Organisations that need to crawl and archive entire sites, not just track individual pages.

Strengths

  • Crawls whole sites rather than single URLs, which suits audit and QA workflows.
  • Strong version history and side-by-side diffing across HTML, PDFs and dynamic content.
  • Built for legal and regulatory record-keeping, with durable archives.
  • Transparent tiered pricing starting at $99/mo for 25 websites.

Limitations

  • Versionista has migrated to the Fluxguard platform, so new users onboard through Fluxguard — bookmarks and docs referencing Versionista may be stale.
  • The $99/mo entry point is far above what a single-page watcher costs elsewhere.
  • Check intervals are not published per tier.
  • Overkill if you only need alerts on a handful of pages.

Try the fastest checks in the category

Sken.io includes 1-minute intervals on every paid plan from €3/mo. Start a 14-day trial — 140 checks, every feature unlocked, no credit card.

Working out how many checks you need

Do this before you compare plans, because it usually decides the answer on its own. Multiply the number of monitors by checks per day by 30:

  • 10 pages, hourly: 10 × 24 × 30 = 7,200 checks/month
  • 10 pages, every 15 minutes: 10 × 96 × 30 = 28,800 checks/month
  • 1 page, every minute: 1 × 1,440 × 30 = 43,200 checks/month
  • 1 page, every minute, during an 8-hour window only: 1 × 480 × 30 = 14,400 checks/month

That last line is the pattern most people actually want and few plans are designed around: fast polling during the window that matters, relaxed polling the rest of the time. It is also why Sken.io’s one-time check bundles — 300, 500, 2,000 or 80,000 checks with no subscription — exist. If your monitoring is a handful of intense bursts a year rather than a steady load, a subscription is the wrong shape.

Four pricing traps to check for

  1. Interval tied to tier. Confirm the interval on the plan you intend to buy, not the one in the marketing copy. This is the single biggest source of surprise in the category.
  2. Separate page caps. A generous check allowance means nothing if the plan also caps you at 10 monitored URLs.
  3. Dynamic-page quotas. Wachete meters JavaScript-rendered pages separately and sparingly. If your targets are modern web apps, count those pages specifically.
  4. API calls drawing on the same quota. Visualping’s API usage consumes the plan’s normal check allowance rather than a separate one, so programmatic use competes with your scheduled monitoring.

Our recommendation

If you are watching a small number of pages where a few minutes of delay has a real cost — availability, restocks, competitor pricing, contract pages during a negotiation — start with Sken.io. Nothing else in this category gives you a 1-minute interval for €3/mo, and that is the specific claim we will stand behind.

If you need a free forever plan, AI-written change summaries or team seats, Visualping is the better all-rounder and we would point you there. If your pages sit behind a login, Distill.io is the only real answer. If the archive is the deliverable, look at Fluxguard or ChangeTower.

Website change detection: common questions

What is website change detection?

Website change detection is monitoring a web page on a schedule, comparing each new version against the previous one, and alerting you when something you care about has changed. Tools differ in how they define "changed": a visual diff compares screenshots, a text diff compares rendered content, and element targeting watches a single DOM node so unrelated page changes are ignored.

How often should I check a page?

Match the interval to how fast the thing you are watching moves and how much a missed change costs. Terms-of-service and policy pages are fine daily. Job boards, restocks and availability pages usually want 5 to 15 minutes. Ticket drops, limited releases and competitor price changes justify 1-minute checks. Remember the arithmetic: a 1-minute monitor consumes 1,440 checks a day, so most plans price minute-level polling as a burst activity rather than a permanent setting.

What is the cheapest website change detection tool?

Wachete has the lowest entry price at $5.40/mo, though its Starter plan checks hourly and allows only one JavaScript-rendered page. Sken.io is next at €3/mo for 500 checks with 1-minute intervals unlocked. ChangeTower Lite is $12/mo but checks daily. If free is the requirement, Distill.io, ChangeTower, Wachete, Hexowatch and Visualping all have free forever tiers.

Which tool can monitor pages behind a login?

Distill.io is the strongest option. Its local monitoring runs inside your own browser using your existing session, and recorded macros replay clicks and form fills before each check. Fluxguard also handles authenticated crawling at the enterprise end. Cloud-only tools generally struggle with multi-step logins.

Do these tools work on JavaScript-heavy pages?

Most render pages in a real browser before diffing, so single-page apps and lazy-loaded content are handled. The exception worth flagging is Wachete, which meters JavaScript-rendered pages as a separate and much scarcer "dynamic page" quota — one on Starter, two on Standard — and excludes them from its free plan entirely.

How many checks per month do I actually need?

Multiply monitors by checks per day by 30. Ten pages checked hourly is 7,200 checks a month. The same ten pages checked every 15 minutes is 28,800. One page checked every minute is 43,200 on its own. Work out that number before comparing plans, because check allowances and page caps are priced independently by most vendors.

Can I get alerts in Slack or Discord?

Slack is widely supported but often gated: Visualping requires a Business plan starting at $140/mo, while Sken.io, Distill.io, Hexowatch, Wachete and ChangeTower include it on lower tiers. Discord is much rarer — Sken.io supports it directly. Nearly every tool offers webhooks, which can bridge to anything if you are willing to wire it up.

How we compared these tools

Disclosure: Sken.io is our product. We have an obvious interest in you choosing it, so everything on this page is written to be checkable. Every pricing figure and feature claim about another tool comes from that company’s own public pricing or documentation pages, linked below. Where a vendor does not publish a number — check intervals, for example, are often absent from pricing tables — we write “Not publicly available” instead of estimating.

We compare on the criteria that change the decision in this category: the price of the cheapest usable paid plan, how fast checks run on that plan rather than on the vendor’s most expensive tier, which detection modes are supported, which alert channels are included versus gated behind a business plan, and whether the tool can reach pages that need JavaScript or a login. Marketing claims we could not verify from a public source are left out entirely.

Pricing moves. All figures are correct as of August 9, 2026 and we review this page quarterly, or sooner when a vendor ships a major pricing change. If you spot something that is out of date or wrong, email info@sken.io and we will correct it.
